About WYCTO
The World Youth Chemistry Talent Olympiad (WYCTO) is an international academic chemistry competition for young students worldwide. It primarily welcomes students from Grade 6 to Grade 12 and aims to identify, nurture, and recognize students with strong potential and talent in chemistry and science.
WYCTO not only emphasizes students’ understanding of fundamental chemistry concepts, but also places strong emphasis on conceptual thinking, quantitative reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the application of chemistry knowledge in interdisciplinary contexts. Particular attention is given to the connections between chemistry and biomedical sciences, modern science, technology, and STEM-related
fields.
The competition is organized by the Institute for Applied STEM Research and Human Resource Training (IASTEM), with academic support from the Faculty ofChemistry – VNU University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Through the organization of the Taiwan competition, we hope to provide students in Taiwan with more opportunities to participate in international chemistry competitions, broaden their scientific perspectives through an international academic platform, and develop the foundational knowledge and skills required for future studies and careers in chemistry, biomedical sciences, engineering, and STEM-related fields.
Objectives
1. To identify and nurture young students with potential in chemistry and science.
2. To enhance students’ ability to apply chemistry knowledge in analysis, reasoning, and
problem-solving.
3. To deepen students’ understanding of the practical applications of chemistry in biomedical
sciences, technology, engineering, and everyday life.
4. To promote academic exchange and international cooperation among students from
different countries through international academic competitions.
5. To encourage students to continue pursuing chemistry and STEM-related studies and to
recognize their academic achievements through competition results.
